I'm  Charlie

My name is Charlie and I’m the proud founder and creator of the K9 Fitness Centre here in Cairns. 

​

I've worked with dogs for many years, in lots of different ways and areas, from being a dog walker as my very first job as a teen,  to working in rescue centres abroad, teaching group obedience classes in both the UK and Australia and lately, working in doggy daycare centres and grooming salons.

Time and time again, the number one thing I see in people who own dogs, is a lack of ability to truly physically fulfil their dog's needs. This isn’t down to “lazy” owners, it’s just that most dogs need more exercise than we can give them. It typically ends up leading to unwanted behaviours,  anxious, aggressive or overstimulated dogs. These dogs are then labelled as “bad dogs” for being destructive, reactive, hard to train or walk, and a nuisance in the home and neighbourhood. Then I'm called to do a home visit, or, worse the dog ends up re homed.

Living in Cairns, it can be hard to give our dogs what they need. It’s hot, and often rainy. Getting our dogs exercised in the heat isn’t always easy, and there are very few places that dogs can go and run and be wild and free, especially for dogs that may not enjoy the company of other dogs too much.

I wanted to give owners a chance to give their dogs the gift and space to be able to run to their hearts content.

​

The solution is easy, and the time dedication is minimal. 

​

I’ve created the K9 fitness centre as a place for all dogs to come and get proper exercise, release energy, have fun and drain their batteries.
